alabama pcb poisoning
In Anniston, Alabama the Swann Chemical Company plant was the first site to make PCBs. By 1969, the plant was dumping about 250 pounds of PCBs into Snow Creek. IT was revealed that the company who owned the plant, Monsanto, hid the fact that they were dumping the waste. In 1966, managers discovered that fish placed into the creek died immediately - spurting blood and shedding its scales. In another creek, they found fish that had 7,500 times the legal level of PCBs. PCB exposure in humans increases the risks of cancer, reproductive and growth issues, neurological effects, and problems with the immune system.
