Three Miles Island meltdown
March 28th, 1979 the Nuclear reactor in Middletown, PA partially melted down and released radioactive material into the environment. This was the worst accident in U.S. power plant history. Experts, at first, concluded that the amount of radiation released was too small to cause health problems. However, it was later revealed that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission did not actually know how much radiation was released. Over 2,400 residents have filed lawsuits demanding compensation for problems such as birth defects and diseases. Some people have even gone as far as to accuse the state of hiding the health impacts of the accident.
Just after the accident, President Jimmy Carter released the report done by the investigative commission.
