1950 - The first ever U.S conference on Air Pollution was held.
1951 - the Nature Conservancy, a nonprofit organization made lands and waters around the world, is established in the U.S.
1955 - Eisenhower talks about air pollution in his State of the Union address, he calls on the health service to study methods of control.
1955 - The Air Pollution Control Act is passed.
1963 - The Clean Air Act is passed.
1965 - The Water Quality Act is passed.
1966 - The first legislation regarding endangered species is passed.
1968 - The Wild and Scenic Rivers Act is passed.
1969 - The Santa Barbara oil spill leads to reforms in the energy industry.
1970 - The National Environmental Policy Act is passed
- The first national Earth Day was on April 22, 1970.
- The Natural Resources Defense Council is established.
- The Environmental Protection Agency is established
- the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration is created
1972 - The Marine Mammal Protection Act is passed.
1974 - The Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act is enacted.
1975 - The Eastern Wilderness Areas Act is passed
1987 - The Love Canal disaster leads to the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act to be signed into law.
1988 - The Ocean Dumping Ban Act is signed into law.
